There will be an online version of the JETS camp, conducted from July 7-10. More details soon.
It is with deep regret that we must announce that the Australian Junior Elite Training Squad (JETS) camp will not be held this year.
As is well known, for the foreseeable future any group activity in Australia is now restricted and even when that condition is lifted, we would understand the reluctance of many parents to allow their children to take part. Add in Queensland’s travel restrictions plus the likely cancellation of the Gold Coast Open and it seem pointless to continue planning for a JETS camp this year.
With the original July dates unfeasible and any substitute dates in September/October also up in the air, it has been decided to cancel JETS for 2020, and hope that 2021 will be a better year for everyone.
As a result of this decision, we will not be releasing the JETS selections for 2020. Suffice it to say that the quality of the applicants this year was very strong, with 44 players receiving at least one vote by a selector advocating their admission to the JETS squad.
Although over the board chess is in limbo at the moment, we recommend juniors to look out for online tournaments organised by their local chess club or State junior association.
